Character History
- Entrapta is the princess of Drill, one of the kingdoms of Etheria. She's well-known for her inventions and technical expertise, which is exactly why she's scouted by the Rebel forces (aka Adora, Glimmer, and Bow) to be part of the Princess Alliance. This endeavor doesn't prove easy, however. First the main characters have to navigate a labyrinthine castle and hordes of evil robots, as well as Entrapta's...odd personality. Despite her vast expertise, she's eccentric, obsessed with technology, and pretty oblivious to everything around her, other human lives included. Upon first meeting Adora (as She-ra) and Glimmer, Entrapta's interests lie not in what the heck they're doing in her castle or who they are, but in the First Ones tech in She-ra's sword and why She-ra is so dang tall. She then offers to cut Adora open to see what happened to her after the sword becomes corrupted by the virus that's taken over everything else technological in the castle. She makes this offer twice, and seemingly only fails to make it a third time because Glimmer yells at her and not so much because she's convinced it's a bad idea to cut people open to see how they work inside.
Let's say that morality and common sense are both...gray areas for Entrapta.
In the end, the heros successfully take down the robot invasion (which, by the way, Entrapta herself created by messing around with technology she doesn't understand), destroying the crystal that caused the virus, and get Entrapta's agreement to join the Alliance. No sooner have they left, however, than Entrapta gets busy putting the damn crystal back together because the experiment isn't over yet. One robot zombie invasion wasn't enough, apparently.
Whether or not Entrapta really knows what she's agreed to with the Alliance is debatable at first. While she's at Princess Prom, she's happy to meet up with the others (and happy that they're serving tiny foods for her to eat), including Adora, Glimmer, Mermista, and Seahawk, but can't seem to be bothered to remember she's part of the Alliance Adora and Glimmer are working to create. She's certainly not bothered by having run into and talked with Catra, a member of the evil Horde that the Alliance is working to stop.
An episode or two later, however, and it's clear Entrapta is on board with these people as friends and comrades. She shows up with the other princesses (and Seahawk) to help Adora save Glimmer and Bow from the Horde, but runs into a little trouble once they actually reach the Fright Zone and enact their plans. And by trouble, I here mean she gets massively distracted because the Horde has robots and she must know what all of them are and what they're doing and oh man, she even has the time to reprogram one and she names it Emily and--
Ahem. Suffice to say that she drives even Perfuma, the most zen of people, a little nuts with her short attention span and single-minded focus on technology. But it's exactly because Entrapta got lost and distracted that she ultimately saves Seahawk from Scorpia. So things worked out. Everything's coming up Entrapta. And she (and Emily) prove useful throughout the escape of the majority of the party from the Fright Zone, hacking open doors and then sealing them shut behind everyone. On reaching the last door, however, she forgets to unhook Emily from the wall panel, preventing the robot from getting through the door. Without a thought, Entrapta goes back to save her, getting cut off from the others and seemingly killed in the process. While everyone else heads back to Bright Moon, Entrapta is left behind in the Fright Zone.
Having learned from the foray that she shouldn't wander around when she gets lost so that her friends can find her again, Entrapta remains in the Fright Zone after being left behind. She avoids detection by hiding in the vents, but is eventually, literally sniffed out by Catra, who takes her prisoner and intends to question her about the rebellion.
Keeping Entrapta prisoner turns out to be a little difficult and also pointless. For one thing, she picks the locks with her hair in a matter of minutes and frees herself. For another, she has no problem telling Catra whatever she wants to know, provided Catra lets her mess around with the Horde's technology while she does so. When Entrapta tells Catra how she was left behind--unaware that the others think she's dead--Catra tries to manipulate her emotions by explaining how she was abandoned (projecting much, Catra?). It seems to work marginally--Entrapta does tear up a bit--but doesn't seem to have much if any bearing on Entrapta's willingness to help Catra and the Horde. What does have any bearing on that decision? The Black Garnet, a Runestone belonging to the Horde. Also important? That Catra bothers to ask her about her theories. Emotionally, that seems to do much more for Entrapta than Catra's attempts at manipulation.
Learning about Entrapta's modifications to Emily, which increased the robot's firepower among other things, and aware of her willingness to go along if given access to First Ones technology, Catra convinces Lord Hordak to give Entrapta access to the Black Garnet and see what she can do with it. After a brief interruption by Shadow Weaver, Entrapta manages to, as she says, hack the planet, using the power of the Black Garnet to affect the other Runestones, which are interconnected. Her actions give the Horde its first real opportunity to directly attack Bright Moon and attempt to destroy the Runestone there. If Entrapta is really aware that's what's happening, however, she doesn't seem to care. She's much more concerned with the experiment she's conducting with the Black Garnet.
Although the "experiment" (and the attack on Bright Moon) end up being failures, Entrapta happily tells Hordak that she discovered more than anyone ever had about the Runestones and First Ones tech (as an aside, she doesn't seem particularly afraid of Hordak--she bows when he appears, but talks freely in front of him without seeming too worried by repercussions of speaking out of turn). So she finishes out the first season as the newest member of the Horde.
Despite her apparent defection, it's hard to call Entrapta "evil." Though she clearly thought of the other princesses as friends, their well-being (and her own well-being, if we're honest) always comes second to Entrapta's curiosity. She ignores the clear signs that Catra wants to use her skills to kill people, because it means she can get her hands on, study, and experiment with the objects of her interest. She's not a bad person--she's just so wrapped up in what she can do that she never considers what she should do.
Abilities/Special Powers
- Entrapta is a genius at anything technical, including inventing and engineering stuff. She also has prehensile pigtails...? that can manipulate things and even carry her around if she doesn't feel like walking like a normal person.
Third-Person Sample
- Entrapta discovered the dining room largely by chance. The tables spread across the room, already prepared with place settings, made it obvious what the room was for. Cautious and curious, she took a seat, half expecting a robot to roll in with a covered dish and offer it to her. When no such thing happened, she slumped in her chair, thoughts of tiny cupcakes and bottled soda crossing her mind.
And they appeared! This place was full of things she wasn't expecting!
She took a moment to admire the tiny bear-shaped cupcake before popping it into her mouth and going over things in her head. This...was definitely not the Fright Zone. If anything, it reminded Entrapta of her own palace in Drill, at least in terms of how labyrinthine it was. But it was much easier to navigate: no hidden doors or pitfalls, no ventilation system to crawl around in, and, worst of all, no robots. That was something she would have to rectify.
As soon as she figured out where in the world she was, anyway.
First-Person Sample
- [The feed bobs a bit as Entrapta holds the device up, oriented toward herself. It's about arms length away from her face, as though she were holding it as far out as she could. But...both of her hands are visible in the frame as she speaks, fiddling with a second network device she'd obtained from a closet.]
Wondland log, day 1!
[She looks entirely too excited. As she speaks, it's hard to tell if she's talking to herself or to anyone who might be listening over the network.]
I've already looked through the network archives and I've found some incredible data. I'll start recording and collating the information as soon as possible. But first, I'm not sure how the network broadcasting is possible. There aren't any devices to boost a signal, at least not that I've found, and there seems to be no limit to the range of these devices. In fact--
[She breaks off abruptly, one hand going to her chin, her eyes lighting up. When she starts to speak again, she's talking quite quickly.]
In fact, it reminds me of the magic-tech from home! There's nothing like a rune stone here, is there? There must be something conducting the energy that's required to make these things work somewhere! Someone here must know something, right?
[And she stares into the camera, wide-eyed and smiling, waiting for a response.]
